Local life:

Away from the bustling city of Chennai is Dakshinachitra, which translates as -˜picture of the South’, and after a visit here, it’s easy to see why. Dakshinachitra is a unique Heritage Centre located on the east coast road in Muttukadu that offers visitors the chance to explore the different architectural, cultural and artistic influences of South India. I had the chance to try my hand at the ancient craft of Kolam which is the art of sprinkling intricate patterns on the floor outside your home with rice flour, as is often seen throughout the region of Tamil Nadu during festivals. This was a great chance to meet the locals and try something unique to this fascinating region, and I would definitely recommend heading off the beaten track and exploring your inner artist!

Walk on the wild side:

Further south, the pretty town of Nagercoil sits on the edge of the Western Ghats Mountains.  Here, a Jeep ride into the forest was an unforgettable experience and gave me the chance to see some of the local wildlife including some very friendly monkeys! I would definitely recommend this day trip which could be combined with a visit to Kanniyakumari located on the southernmost tip of India where the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal meet. A breathtaking sight that’s not to be missed.

If you are looking for a more relaxing break for your winners, then look no further than the 5* Fisherman’s Cove Resort. This stunning hotel is the perfect place to soak up the sun, sip cocktails by the pool, or take a short stroll from the luxury beach front villas to the blissfully warm waters below. I spent a couple of nights here and found it extremely hard to leave!
