With more and more women travelling solo on business, an increasing number of hotels are creating rooms and even whole floors which are just for women. The Dukes London hotel in Mayfair is one such place and now offers 19 Duchess Rooms with fresh flowers, women’s magazines, size-appropriate slippers and robes, as well as female staff members to escort guests at check-in. Dukes is not alone in its endeavour; the 180-room Georgian Court Hotel Downtown Vancouver has created a ‘women-only’ Orchid Floor, comprising of 18 rooms with flat irons, yoga mats and beauty products. In Copenhagen too, the 814-room Bella Sky Comwell has a 20-room ‘Bella Donna’ floor, available only to female guests by an elevator key card. The hotels claim that their changes have caused a dramatic increase in female bookings, and feedback from guests has been extremely positive.
